The Mermaid Inn offers historic accommodation in Rye, featuring Norman cellars dating back to the 12th century and secret passageways in some rooms. Rebuilt in 1420, this inn has hosted royalty, celebrities, and artists, and retains many traditional features, including a secret stairway hidden behind a bookcase. The award-winning restaurant serves fine French and British cuisine and has been awarded two AA Rosettes. The lounge bar, once frequented by smugglers, features a large open log fireplace and a wooden beam supported by stone pillars. Each of the 31 guestrooms includes a TV, a desk, coffee/tea maker, and a private bathroom. Some rooms offer picturesque views. Complimentary wireless internet access is available.
